The Office of Research Administration is responsible for all pre- and post- award administration of sponsored programs at New York Blood Center. NYBC sponsors include Federal, State and Local governments, non-profit agencies, corporations, and foundations.

In addition, the Office of Research Administration administers NYBC's Exchange Visitor Program (J1), a program of the United States Information Agency under which NYBC sponsors visits from qualified foreign research scholars and specialists to promote the general interest of international educational and cultural exchange.

The Office of Research Administration also houses and provides support for NYBC's research compliance committees:

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees NYBC's animal programs, facilities and procedures insuring the appropriate care, use and humane treatments of animals being used for research, testing and education.

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) assures that activities at NYBC involving recombinant DNA, infectious biologicals and biological toxins meet the ethical and legal requirements for the responsible use of these agents.

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews all NYBC research activities involving human subjects, regardless of sponsorship, in order to protect the rights and welfare of individuals participating in NYBC research. If you have questions about your rights as a research participant, you can contact the IRB Administrator, Nancy Moynihan, R.N., M.S., at (212) 570-3038. All communication with the IRB will be kept confidential.
